Historic sites in Kyu Karuizawa has been designated as one of 101 Special Preservation Areas of Historic Landscape in Japan. After Meiji Restoration (1868), a lot of missionaries, foreign ambassadors and politicians came to build a villa in Karuizawa, and it became a town where the exoticism overflowed.
