Murin-an Teien

Information : Murin-an Teien | 無鄰庵庭園

Murinan was built from 1894 to 1896 by Jihee Ogawa* and was designed by Aritomo Yamagata who was an elder statesman. The name of “Murinan” came from there having been no neighboring house in a hermitage which Mr. Yamagata built in Yamaguchi prefecture. The garden is a strolling pond garden which uses Mt.Higashi as the background (Shakkei Technique*). There is the three steps waterfall which imitated the waterfall of Daigo-ji temple’s garden.

Jihee Ogawa : built the Heian Jingu Shinen garden and the Furukawa garden.

Shakkei : the technique of forming a dynamic scene by taking nature into the scenery in a garden as a background.
