Hokkaido Jingu (北海道神宮)
Information :
Hokkaido used to be called “Ezo” before Meiji restoration. After Meiji period startaed(1868), this shrine was built by the imperial edict of Emperor Mutsuhito in order to protect the reclamation of Hokkaido. This shrine was designated as the most important provincial shrine (Shin Ichinomiya) in 1869.
Enshrined Deity :
Ookuninushino no mikoto (大国主命) – God of the land of Hokkaido
Oonamuchi no Kami (大那牟遅神) – God of managing and developing a land
Sukunahikona no Kami (少彦名命) – God of managing a land , medicine, and brewing
Emperor Meiji (明治天皇)
