Overview : The Narrow Road to the Deep North
The Narrow Road to the Deep North (Oku no Hosomichi), one of the most famous travelogue, written by Basho Matsuo, was published in 1702. In order to see the places which poets were written, Basho and his apprentice Sora went to Tohoku region from Edo. The travel on foot (2,400km) was very hard and spent for about 150 days. Since this travelogue has become popular , people go to Tohoku or Hokuriku region to follow Basho’s footsteps. Kotodamaya shows dates, poems and locations which Basho visited.
